Gardai appeal for witnesses as Ennis feud heats up

Gardaí at Ennis Garda Station are appealing for witnesses as they investigate a number of incidents that occurred over the last week. On Wednesday, November 30, reports were received of a firearm being discharged at Shallee Drive and Cloughleigh Road. Crime prevention officer Sergeant Triona Brooks said, “Thankfully there was nobody injured. Gardaí were quickly at the scene and a number of searches were carried out in the Ennis area after the reports and a number of vehicles have been seized as part of this investigation. On Friday afternoon, December 2 at approximately 3pm, a collision between the occupants of an Audi A6 and an Audi A4 occurred at Gaurus, Ennis. “One vehicle was rammed by another vehicle and a number of males left one of the vehicles and fled the scene. “Uniformed and Detective Gardaí from Ennis Garda Station responded immediately to this incident. Witness appeal following aggravated burglary in Ennis

GARDAI are appealing for witnesses to an aggravated burglary that occured in Ennis on Saturday evening. Female occupants of a house in John Paul Avenue estate were threatened in their sitting room by two men who entered the house wearing black clothing and carrying implements. The incident occurred at 7.45 p.m. on Saturday evening last November 26. The males did not take anything and nobody was injured. The two men ran out the front door to a waiting car. If anyone saw this car or anyone who may have dashcam/camera footage they are asked to contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 6848100.

Clare students urged to celebrate Junior Cert results safely

ADDITIONAL gardaí will be on duty in Ennis this Wednesday as teenagers celebrate their long awaited Junior Certificate results in the Queen’s Hotel. Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Triona Brooks has insisted, “Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.” The alcohol-free Junior Certificate Disco takes place this coming Wednesday at the Queens Hotel Ennis between 7.30pm and 10.30pm. “Parents are to ensure arrangements are in place for the safe arrival and collection of their children. We are asking parents to stay until their children enter the disco,” said Sergeant Brooks. Transport Operators are to ensure that no alcohol is allowed on their vehicles, she adds. “Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated. Those found to have consumed alcohol or under the influence of other substances will be refused admission to the disco. Clare firm’s ‘substantial’ loss after invoice redirection scam

GARDAI have issued advice to companies in county Clare on how to recognise potential invoice redirection fraud after a local firm lost a substantial amount of money to such a scam. Clare crime preventioon officer Sergeant Triona Brooks said, “Unfortunately during the week a business in the county received an e-mail from a known supplier requesting to change bank account details and to lodge monies into this account which they did and realised after the lodgement that they had been compromised and are at a loss of a substantial amount of money.” Sergeant Brooks said, invoice redirection fraud, otherwise known as business e-mail compromise can occuer when a fraudster sends an e-mail to a business purporting to be one of their legitimate suppliers. The e-mail contains a request to change bank account details that the business has for a legitimate supplier. The victim business changes the bank details and sends the next payment to the fraudster’s bank account where the …

Clare firearms owners reminded of responsibilities

CLARE gardai have reminded owners of firearms in the county of their “considerable obligations” to ensure weapons are stored safely and securely. Clare crime prevention officer Sergeant Triona Brooks has said people licenced to hold and use fireams must take great care with them both in the home and whilst travelling to a shoot or to a hunt. She noted that possession and carriage of any firearms including a short firearm / ammunition concealed on the person in public is not permitted at any time except in circumstances where such possession and carriage on the person is necessary for a lawful purpose. She offered the following security advice for the safe carriage/storage of firearms. 1. Clare woman’s significant losses from WhatsApp scam

GARDAI have warned people to be vigilant around text message and email communication after a woman in Clare was scammed out of a significant amount of money. Clare crime prevention officer Sergeant Triona Brooks said, “During the week a lady was at home when she received a text message via WhatsApp from a person purporting to be her daughter. “The text said that she had broken her phone and needed a replacement. This person then requested money to be transferred online and attached a link. “The victim, a trusting individual did not question this at the time and clicked on the link and provided her banking details.” A sum of €550 was taken from the account of the victim in four instalments, €150 x 3 and €100 x 1 before another attempt to take €100 was declined by the lady’s bank. “This lady only realised the extent of this fraud the following day on speaking with her daughter by telephone …

Garda app to help people record property and put off thieves

AN Garda Síochána have unveiled a newly developed mobile app for people to record their personal property. Clare Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Triona Brooks explains, “The new Property App supports An Garda Síochána’s efforts to encourage people to clearly mark their property and make a record of it – property that is well marked is less attractive to a thief and more difficult to sell on.” The app enables you to take photographs and record receipts, store registration codes and property markings. Any information entered into the app is either stored locally on the device or backed up to your cloud account. No data will be stored by An Garda Síochána, she outlines. Cigarettes and alcohol taken from east Clare business premises

GARDAI in Clare are investigating a number of burglaries and thefts across the county. On Thursday evening last, September 29, between 7.05 p.m. and 7.15 p.m. a number of persons entered a business premises on Main Street, Tulla. A quantity of cigarettes and alcohol were stolen and a black Skoda Octavia was seen in the area at the time. If anyone saw this vehicle or anyoe who may have dash cam footage they are asked to contact Killaloe Garda Station on 061 620540. In Carron, on the same night between 10pm and Friday morning, a silver 8 x 4 flat body trailer with a high ramp and ladder rack was stolen from a farmyard in Poulacarron.
