THE EU Digital Covid-19 Certificate (DCC) officially came into force this Monday, July 19, but the government began issuing them from July 12. Here’s a quick refresher on what it is, what it does and how to get one. Remind me what it is again? The EU Digital Covid-19 Certificate (DCC), which came into force throughout the rest of the EU on July 1, is designed to make safe travel easier by providing proof that the holder has either: – Been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 with one of the approved vaccines (Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson) – Received a negative test in the last day or two (PCR for Ireland, but other European countries accept certain types of antigen tests) – Recovered from Covid-19 in the last six months The DCC will be a QR code that will be available digitally on a smart device or on a piece of paper. Clare patients to see ULHG appointments restored on phased basis

SCHEDULED Care is being restored on a phased basis across the UL Hospitals’ Group as systems recover from last month’s devastating cyber attack, writes Dan Danaher. This announcement comes after the Mid-West Public Health Department confirmed there were 82 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Clare, 510 in Limerick, and 45 in North Tipperary over the past two weeks. On June 21, there were 13 confirmed cases in Limerick, eight in Clare and none in North Tipperary. Outpatient appointments, day case and inpatient surgery, endoscopy and other investigations are being gradually restored at University Hospital Limerick, Ennis Hospital, Nenagh Hospital, Croom Orthopaedic Hospital and St John’s Hospital. University Maternity Hospital Limerick was less severely impacted by the cyber attack, and services there continue to operate at the levels prior to the attack of May 14. Sharp fall in number of PUP claims in Clare

WITH the economy reopening the number of people receiving the Pandemic Unemployment Payment in Clare is on the way down, writes Owen Ryan. The numbers receiving the PUP dropped from 8,170 on May 25 to 6,408 on June 15, a decrease of more than 21%. At one point last year, there were almost 15,000 Clare people receiving it. The resumption of hospitality and non-essential retail in recent weeks has been a major factor in the numbers reducing. With further reopening expected over the course of the summer, the number claiming the state support is likely to drop further. Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys said that the figures are falling and the trend is likely to continue. “This week, we have seen another fall in the number of people receiving the Pandemic Unemployment Payment as we continue to make progress in reopening our economy and suppressing the virus. “In fact, there are now over 214,000 fewer people being supported by …
