Surfer airlifted after Aileens wipeout

A surfer was airlifted to University College Hospital Galway on Wednesday after getting into difficulty off the North Clare coast. The surfer was taken from the water near the world famous Aill na Searrach or Aileens wave close to the Cliffs of Moher.

The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard was contacted just after 11am on Wednesday to assist with an injured surfer, 200m off Aileens. Some of the team were in various locations along the Cliffs continuing an ongoing search when they left for the Rocket House in Doolin and assembled with other team members to launch the Delta RIB.

Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, transported the injured surfer from the water to Galway.
