ENNIS man Peadar White is getting ready for a massive drive throughout the country in August, which he’s doing to raise awareness of the Samaritans.
He will re-enact the 1901 Motor Tour of Ireland, which took 21 days to complete. Peadar expects to complete it in just five.
“We’re starting in Dublin on the eight of August. We’re driving to Waterford, spending the first night there, then travelling via Cork City up the Kenmare Pass into Killarney and Tralee on the second day. Then on the Friday, we’ll be going from Tralee to Ennis, where the first ever road rally in Ireland was held.
“We’re going on Saturday morning from the Halfway and going the original route back to Kilbaha, Kilrush, Kilkee, Kilbaha is how we’re going and then across the coast to Ballyvaughan. From there, we’re going to Galway, onto Ma’am Cross and Leenane. That’s the Saturday, on the Sunday, we go from Leenane to Sligo. On the Monday, it’s Sligo to Enniskillen and back to Dublin,” said Peadar, explaining the scale of the trip.
He is hopeful vintage enthusiasts in Clare will join him for some of the road on Saturday, August 11. “Normally in motor tours, there’s an entry fee but we’re not having that and people can make donations. We’re starting from the Halfway on the Saturday morning and we’d like as many vintage and classic enthusiasts to take part in it with us.”
