ST Senan’s were presented with the Munster Junior League Division 2 Cup after their match with Crosshaven on Saturday last in Jimmy Slattery Park, Shannon.
The Clare side knew that victory would see them crowned champions but the occasion proved to be something of an anti-climax.
The game had to be played as a friendly, as Crosshaven did not have enough front row cover, due to injuries sustained in their previous week’s fixture.
St Senan’s ran out 28-6 winners after the referee called a halt to the game early into the second half.
The winner’s scores came from Brian Collins, Elbertheo Assia, Darragh McCoy, Fergal Skerrit and Declan Collins.
The new Munster Division 2 champions have to put celebrations on ice, however, as they prepare to face Garryowen in the next round of the Munster Junior Cup on Sunday in Dooradoyle.
Having caused an upset last time out when they defeated a fancied Nenagh, they will go into Sunday’s game as outsiders against what is believed to be an experienced Garryowen team.
St Senan’s are also awaiting the result of the Munster Junior Shield semi-final to learn who they will face in the final.
