St Senan’s celebrate 50 years

Margaret Murphy, deputy principal at St Senan’s National School in Shannon, gives Damien Lawlor a helping hand at the planting of a tree as part of the school’s Golden Jubilee celebrations at the weekend.
ST Senan’s National School celebrated its 50th anniversary last weekend and principal Sally O’Neill said there had been great celebrations.

“We had a great success and it all went really well. We had our book launch on Saturday night and that was done by Margaret Murphy who has just retired as deputy principal. Margaret was here for over 35 years and she was very, very highly thought of,” she commented.
There were a number of events on the Sunday, she added. “The bishop said mass in the morning and he recognised the children there as the future and he spoke to them and asked them about the jubilee, which was really nice. After that, we had a tree-planting ceremony with Margaret and the school’s youngest pupil, Damien Lawlor. We went back to the school and there were a huge number of people there. We got huge support and we’re very grateful to everyone who helped,” she said.
