St Flannan’s and Ard Scoil through to quarter-finals

St Flannan’s College are through to the knock-out stage of the Dr Harty Cup (Munster Colleges Senior A Hurling Championship) following their win over St Colman’s at Charleville on Wednesday. They had already beaten Thurles CBS in round one.
In the knock-out phase, they will be joined by the titleholders Ard Scoil Rís who defeated Coláiste Chriost Rí this week. St Caimin’s are out of the title race after they suffered their second defeat of the campaign, going down to Waterford Colleges in Golden.

St Flannan’s        1-14
St Colman’s         1-8

St Flannan’s looked to be in trouble when they found themselves 1-4 down after ten minutes.
Playing with the aid of the breeze, St Colman’s got off to a blistering start but by the mid-point of the opening half, St Flannan’s had settled. The switch of Tony Kelly to centre-back helped improve matters and by half-time, the Ennis side were just four points adrift, 0-6 to 1-7.
With the aid of the wind, St Flannan’s piled on the pressure and good scores from Peter Duggan and Kelly and a goal from David Reidy helped them to hit the front by the mid-point of the second half. They went on to dominate the final quarter and run out deserving winners.
On a disappointing note, St Flannan’s dual player Martin O’Leary suffered a serious collarbone injury that is likely to keep him out of action until the new year.

Waterford Colleges     2-28
St Caimin’s                       0-6

Waterford Colleges proved much too strong for St Caimin’s in this tie played at Golden. The winners won the toss and elected to play with the breeze in the opening half and they were well on their way to victory at half-time, 1-15 to 0-3.
The Shannon side, all of whom are eligible for this competition again next year, fought hard on the turnover but they failed to match the experience of their physically stronger opponents.

Ard Scoil Rís                  1-17
Colaiste Chriost Rí        0-7

Titleholders Ard Scoil Rís had a comfortable win over Coláiste Chriost Rí at Mallow on Wednesday.
Sixmilebridge’s Jamie Shanahan lined out at midfield and had contributed 0-4 to his side’s tally before being replaced by Cian McCarthy from Parteen. Michael O’Loughlin from Clonlara was also introduced during the course of this tie.

West Clare Colleges    3-9
Glanmire                        1-12

Two late Colm Pyne goals helped West Clare Colleges to defeat Glanmire from Cork and qualify for the Munster U-15A colleges semi-final. The game was played in Rathkeale on Wednesday afternoon.
A first half goal from Gary Stevens helped West Clare Colleges into a 1-6 to 0-3 half-time lead. However Glanmire, aided by the wind, led by three points, three minutes from full-time.
A superb Cian Murphy run, which ended with his shot being blocked, led to Colm Pyne scoring the first of the two late winning goals. Two weeks ago, West Clare Colleges beat Colaiste Chriost Rí 0-7 to 0-4 after extra time, in their first round game. They will now play either Clonmel or Rochestown in the semi-final on Wednesday, November 9.
