Spoils shared in Junior B League final

Killanena 2-7   Bodyke 3-4

Killanena and Bodyke need another day out to decide who will take the title of Junior B League winners for 2012, having played out an entertaining and competitive game in Ogonnelloe on Sunday morning.

Killanena raced into an early lead, when Amy McArthur hand passed to the net, following a pass from Evelyn Glynn. Glynn rattled the net herself in the third minute and with two points also on the scoreboard, Killanena were firmly in the driving seat.
Bodyke pulled a goal back in the eighth minute when captain Ann Marie Fitzgerald sent a free to the square and, though Aoife Collins got the block in, it was Aideen Wiley who finished to the net. Bodyke, buoyed by this goal, raised their game and with two points from Fitzgerald, having received some well executed passes from Sinéad Doyle, it was game on.
Claire Madden’s goal for Bodyke, in the 18th minute, levelled matters. Glynn and Fitzgerald traded points to keep matters level before Glynn put daylight between the sides in the 29th minute, giving Killanena the narrowest of margins at the break. Glynn added a further two points on the restart, before Fitzgerald converted a free for Bodyke, which Glynn cancelled out with a free of her own in the 39th minute. Killanena now held a three-point lead and over the next 20 minutes both sides fought tooth and nail to get the upper hand.
Bodyke’s Doyle had the opportunity to level in the 47th minute but Killanena goalie Anne McNamara stopped her shot on the line. McNamara again came to Killanena’s rescue in the 58th minute after another Bodyke attack, started by Una Kavanagh who laid off a pass to Doyle, whose shot was stopped once more and the rebound was sent just wide of the post.
With the game in injury time, Killanena supporters were anticipating taking the trophy home but Bodyke finally manage to get the ball past Gráinne McNamara, who had been outstanding for Killanena. Hazel Minogue grabbed the equalising goal in the 63rd minute. A Bodyke free to clinch the title in the 64th minute drifted wide, leaving both sides to face each other once again to decide who will be 2012 Junior B League title holders.
