Spanish Point seniors open day attracts big numbers

Spanish Point hosts a senior open each Tuesday for male and female golfers and this is particularly popular during the winter months, as the course stays dry. Scoring has been very good in the past few weeks, with the leading players regularly returning 38 points and over and last week’s competition was no exception when Patrick O’Boyle won with 42 points in tough conditions.

His score was further distinguished by the fact that when converted to gross shots (80), it equalled his age and this is as rare in a golfer’s career as holes in one or eagles, so Patrick is one of that small group who can now claim to “have shot his age” over 18 holes.

Last weekend, the annual turkey season for men got under way with a Stableford singles competition, which was well supported. The winner was Noel Connellan (17) with 42 points from Brian O’Loughlin (11) with 40 points and Martin Glenny (16) with 39 points.
