Following a meeting between officers of Spanish Point Golf Club and officials of the Munster branch of the GUI, last week’s decision to disqualify the Clare club from the Pierce Purcell competition was rescinded.

Winners of the area competition, Spanish Point will now go on to compete in the North Munster final, where they will play Charleville. This game has been fixed for Shannon on Thursday, June 13.

At last week’s meeting, the Clare club produced records that the Munster officials accepted as being accurate.
As a result, Munster advised all involved that there was no breach of rule 23 of the tournament conditions and the disqualification imposed on the club was rescinded.

“We are thrilled with the decision. We knew we were right and we were determined to prove that. What happened was unfortunate but we are now looking forward to playing Charleville next week,” club secretary Fergal Hehir told The Clare Champion this week.
