Spanish Point puts committees in place for 2013


Last Friday night the Spanish Point men’s club held their annual general meeting with the following officers being elected for the coming year: captain, Eoghan O’Loughlin; vice-captain Brendan Sexton; ex-officio, Noel McMahon; secretary, Martin Glenny; treasurer, Jim Marrinan; committee members, Brendan Coyne, Seamus McMahon, John Meere, Fergal Hehir.

 

The ladies’ club held their AGM on Sunday afternoon and the officers elected for the year are: lady captain, Helen Sullivan; vice-captain, Kathleen Twoomey; ex-officio, Nuala Kilroy; secretary, Maura O’Boyle; treasurer, Ann White; committee, Bernadette O’Gorman, Maura Burke and Geraldine Reddan; handicap committee, Mary Cleary, Helen Sullivan, Áine Buckley and Geraldine Reddan.

In last week’s senior open the winner was Patrick O’Boyle.

The weekend team of four turkey rumble was won by Brian O’Loughlin (9), Joe O’Rourke (11), Paidi McGough (12) and Michael Hillery (14) with 81 points.

This weekend there will be a two-ball scramble and a timesheet will operate.

Lahinch

In a ladies invitational team of four competition on the championship course on Friday the winners were Jacqueline McGrath (16), Siobhán Joyce (22), Eilisa Molloy (19) and Ann Treacy (25) with 84 points. They had two to spare over Anna Glynn (18), Frances Hough (23), Pauline McCarthy (21) and Anita Coffey (26).

In the men’s singles on Saturday, John Madden (18) was the winner with 31 points.

The men’s singles on Monday of last week was won by Paul O’Brien (5) with 38 points from Eamon Carmody (14) with 37 points with Michael McGrath (15) with 36 points. The gross was won by Peter Hennessy with 30 points.

In a similar competition for ladies on the same day, Liz O’Driscoll (21) was the winner with 39 points from Jenny Hennessy (5) with 37 points with Mary Sadlier (11) with 35 points. Olivia Lucas won the gross with 26 points.

In the open singles on Thursday last, Colin Dunne (6) Slievenamon was the winner with 30 points from John Daly (18) with a similar score.

Woodstock

The nine-hole ladies winter league competition will run to the end of February. The best three nine-hole cards will count over the four months. From December onwards the Winter League will run seven days a week with the draw on Sundays at 11.20am.

For the month of November there will be a 14-hole turkey competition on the four Sundays with the draw being at 11.20am and the tee booked from 11.30am.

All outstanding prizes will be presented at the AGM on Saturday, December 1.

Portumna
The winners of the men’s 14 hole competition at Portumna were Patrick McLoughlin (scratch) with 36 points in the 0-10 category, Vincent Treacy (12) in the 11-15 category with 36 points, Tom Moloney (15) with 40 points in the 15-18 category, Joe O’Brien (22) with 33 points in the 19 and over handicap category and Joe Slattery (15) with 38 points in the seniors section.

In the final Monday open of the season the winner was Michael Buggy (18) with 42 points from Danny McGrath (7) with 38 points and Ina Pierce (13) with 37 points. James P McLoughlin (scr) won the gross with 35 points.

The October winners in the open three-ball competition were Aidan Diviney (20), Patsy Lynch (27) and Gerry Lynch (16) with 50 points.

In second place were Alan Dunphy (11), Brian Casey (19) and John Fahy (13) with 46 points.

Mass for deceased members will be celebrated in the club this Friday at 8pm.

Shannon

The men’s captain (Aidan Mannix) dinner will take place in the clubhouse next Friday.

The ladies Christmas hamper was played for last week and the winner was Michelle Pyke with 39 points from Rose Doyle on 36 and Claire Duggan, also with 36 points. The gross was won by Naoimh McMahon with 25 points.

In the men’s team of four competition at the weekend the winners were Mick Moore, Noel O’Sullivan, Morgan Whelan and Gavin Russell with 79 points from Colm O’Flynn, Jim McNamara, Denis Quinlan and Fergal Kennedy with 78 points.

Gort

The winners of the men’s fourball at Gort at the weekend were Colman Cooney (30) and Ronald Ryan (17) with 45 points from Martin Whelan (19) and Vincent Egan (22) with 44 points.

Last week’s open singles was won by David Kehoe (12) with 42 points from John Greer (6) with 41 points.

This weekend there will be an 18-hole Christmas hampers competition.

In the ladies competition last week, Maureen Brennan (19) was the winner with 25 points from Margaret Hehir (28) with 24 points.

The November Christmas voucher competition takes place this weekend.

Ennis

The winners of the turkey fourball at Ennis were Ronnie Guinnane and Cathal O’Neill with 48 points from Peter Quinn and Don Ryan on 47 points. In third spot with 47 points were Charlie McEnery and Gerard Hanrahan with 47 points followed by Tom Pyne and Seamus Mann with 46 points, with fifth spot filled by Jason Woods and Andrew Whelan with 46 points.

Andrew Whelan won the Friday open singles with 41 points.

In the weekly seniors outing last week the team of three modified scramble was won by Greg Fogarty, John Keane and Sean Fitzpatrick with 72 from Willie Moloney, Tom Purcell and Maurice Walsh on 70. In third spot on 69 were Gerry Scanlon, Tim Kelly and Paddy Cahill and they were followed by Eamonn Murphy, David O’Brien and Jim Scully also on 69. In fifth spot, with the same score, were Johnnie Guerin, Ferdie O’Donoghue and Andy Cregan with sixth place filled by Tony Coote, Tom McGrath and Tom Woulfe and they also had 69.

Kilrush

In the men’s seniors outing at Kilrush last Wednesday the winners were TJ Lyons, Noel Cooney and John O’Neill from Finbarr McMahon, Tom Clarke and Pat Shannon, with third spot filled by Tom Prendeville, Sean Moran and Peter W Glynn.

After week two of the winter league, Tom Cleary’s team leads from Anthony Burke’s team with Pat Shannon’s team in third spot, Murt Collins’ team in fourth place and Tony McMahon’s team in fifth spot.
The closing date for receipt of nominations for positions on the committee and for motions is November 22.

Pitch and putt

At the Clare Road Pitch and Putt Club on Sunday the three ball scramble was won by Noel Cuddihy, Ger Hanrahan and Gerry Kierse. There will be a club competition on this Sunday.
