Smith to exbihit at County Museum

GORT-based artist Ronan Smith is exhibiting his range of work in the foyer at the County Museum until November 20.

The exhibition focuses on his relationship to “the real” through a series of reproductions taken from his unfinished animated movie entitled In-eye 2010. One half of the work is printed images and the other is acrylic paintings, all on 18 mm MDF.
“The real” is a term used by the psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan and is defined as “the state of nature from which we have been forever severed by our entrance into language”
In this exhibition, the artist works with the modernist aesthetic of rhythmic colour and line and the process of digital animation to relay his experience of the phenomenon of “the real” to the viewer. This work has been influenced by the artists Mark Joyce, Helen Frankenthaler, Antoni Tapies, Barbara Hepworth and Paul Klee to name a few.
