Showtime in Kildysart

Kildysart Agricultural Show is gearing up for a day to top all others on Saturday, August 3. A huge range of events have been put together for show day 2013 and organisers are confident patrons will be very impressed.

Coinciding with the local festival and the celebration of The Gathering, there should be a great sense of community surrounding the show.

The show will feature free entertainment for children and many side attractions for all ages. With the good will of the community and the continued support of the sponsors, Kildysart Show Society committee look forward to its 71st show with confidence and optimism.

The Garda Mounted Unit will be on parade during show day and this novel but very effective way of policing will be of interest to all, especially the children.  An art competition on the theme of mounted police is been held in conjunction with this initiative.

The newly introduced Young Rider competitions are designed to cater for the riders who have outgrown ponies and are starting out in the adult showjumping world. The Limerick/Clare branch of SJI have organised these finals and it is a huge boost for Kildysart to host them. Orchard Equestrian has come on board with very generous sponsorship for three new classes. These will run concurrently with the original classes for which there are separate prize money and prestigious trophies. This gives young and more mature riders separate competitions.

Kildysart will again host the Shannonside League finals. Mrs Hartnett of Shannonside Holdings has, for almost 30 years, put up very generous sponsorship for these finals. There is a very keen interest in these competitions from 128cm  to 148cm novice ponies. With substantial prize money on offer and splendid trophies and rosettes, it is every child’s dream to be a Shannonside winner. The competition also holds many memories for parents and grandparents.
There are lots of other jumping competitions from Sportsmans to open ponies so this ensures great variety and opportunity for rider and spectator alike.

All in all, the stage is set for exciting jumping. Many of these young riders have qualified to jump at the RDS and many have also jumped at national and international level.
Kildysart show also hosts the All-Ireland two-year-old Filly Championship. Fillies have qualified at shows all over Ireland to compete at this prestigious event. Alongside this there are young horse classes, mare and foal classes and lunging competitions.

The Champion Young Horse of the show continues to be very sponsored by Mr. John O’Sullivan, formerly of Slieve Dooly, Labasheeda.
The ridden and working hunter classes command great interest and the side-saddle class is a curiosity as it is from a bygone era and rarely seen nowadays. The cattle and sheep classes are very competitive with local and widespread entries. There are donkey classes and a dog show and every child looks forward to showing their pet in the different categories.

The horticultural display in the hall is always of a very high standard. Top quality produce are on display in this section and local interest and participation is huge. A visit to the Community Hall on show day is a must.
For those who like vintage vehicles, their needs are catered for, as an exciting display of cars will be on view.

Given the weather we have been having, the best-dressed lady/man competition is sure to be well supported. It is an ideal opportunity to get dressed up and add a splash of glamour to proceedings and maybe walk away with the title.
“All this and more is what awaits you on show day. You cannot afford to miss this action packed day. Whatever your interest you will find it at Kildysart show.  We look forward to meeting you there,” said PRO Bridget Garry.
