National showjumpers league kicks off at Newmarket Show

The National Amateur Showjumpers league will be launched at Newmarket-On-Fergus Show this Sunday.

Two local companies have come together to sponsor the National Amateur Showjumpers league for 2022.

Joint sponsors Orchard Equestrian and Newmarket Architectural and Planning Services (NAPS), have come together in a sponsorship package worth over €4,000.

This new league will be run at selected shows in the 32 counties throughout the summer, with horse and rider combinations gaining points towards the overall prize giving ceremony.

Along with the national title, the leading rider on points will be crowned an Orchard Equestrian ambassador – a package that includes a €1,000 voucher, jacket and 15% discount code for 12 months.

The runner-up prize is a  €750 voucher, with further prizes on offer for the top 10 riders.

The league kicks off at Newmarket-On-Fergus show, the local show of keen amateur rider Derrick Burke who is also joint sponsor of the competition. Derrick was at the launch with his long term equine partner Tyreda Chip.

Speaking at the launch, Aiden Devine, managing director of Orchard Equestrian, said they were delighted to be associated with sponsoring a showjumping league that will introduce Orchard Equestrian to riders all over the country.

“Amateur riders are amongst our keenest customers, so we are very happy to build on our relationship with them,” he said.

Regarding the sponsorship from his company Newmarket Architectural  and Planning Services (NAPS) based in Newmarket-on-fergus Derrick said, “ I have had such fantastic fun and made such great friends on the amateur circuit over the years, it is great to get this opportunity to give something back. I am particularly delighted that the inaugural Competition will be held at my local show in Newmarket On Fergus on May 1.”

Also at the launch, Aideen Kirby, chairperson  for amateur riders SJI said, “Amateurs are a very important and growing sector of showjumping. Many riders combine busy work and study commitments with competing and caring for their horses.  Orchard Equestrian offer a superb range of equestrian products online, and so are a perfect partner in the sponsorship of this National Amateur league.”
