Shared anniversary masses for Coolmeen and Cranny parishes

Parishioners in Cranny and Coolmeen have been made aware that shared anniversary masses will be held in the parish from this month onwards.

This is already the case in several parishes throughout Clare. First anniversary masses for deceased people will be standalone masses. People attending mass in the parish in recent weeks were informed via the parish newsletter.
“As you are probably aware, there are fewer masses in the parish now,” last Sunday’s newsletter read.
“This leads sometimes to difficulty in getting a vacant mass slot for an anniversary mass for a loved one. It is planned to have shared anniversary masses in both churches starting in January 2011. This would be for anniversaries for the deceased from their second anniversary onwards. First anniversary and month’s mind masses will continue to be celebrated as a separate mass. The last Sunday morning/Saturday evening of each month will be put aside for this mass,” the newsletter explained.
“The mass will be offered for a group of people whose anniversary it is in that particular month.
“At this mass, a candle with the name of the deceased will be brought to the altar. This means that no-one is left out or forgotten or has to wait an unreasonable amount of time or has to go to another church or parish to have a mass for their loved ones.
“This also means that the mass is said for the deceased in and around the time of the anniversary,” the newsletter concluded.
