Shannon to host Clare Stages Rally

THE Clare Motor Club announced The Oakwood Arms Hotel, Shannon as the title sponsor of the 2013 Clare Stages Rally.

Clerk of the course, Dermot Kelleher, said, “The event will bring a vital boost to the local economy and this would not be possible without the support of the Oakwood Arms”.

It’s 30 years since the Clare club ran a motorsport event in Shannon. After its formation in 1980, enthusiastic club members organised a single stage in 1984 and 1985 in the Shannon Free Zone area of the airport.

The organising team are making the final preparations for the club’s premier event of the year.

Frances Kinnane of the Oakwood Arms Hotel said, “We are delighted to welcome the Clare Motor Club to the Shannon Region for the first time in 30 years, which will give a great boost to the local community”.

Mayor of Shannon Mike Fleming added, “It’s great to see the event back in Shannon. There is already great anticipation around the event and for sure the local community will strongly lend its support to the weekend”.

The rally takes place on the weekend of September 21-22 and is round five of the Top Part West Coast Rally Championship.

The organising team is offering competitors a compact event featuring two very competitive stages, which will be repeated three times. Taking into account the current financial climate the club has decided to reduce the entry fee for all competitors, including juniors and historics.

Event regulations and entry forms are available to download at www.shannonsportsit.ie and from the club’s website www.claremotor club.com.
