Shannon station records sunniest spring

SHANNON had more sunshine than any other Met Éireann weather station in spring of this year, according to the agency. However, it was still very cold, with the mean temperature for the season almost two degrees below normal.

 

For its purposes, Met Éireann considers March, April and May as spring.

The amount of rainfall at Shannon over the course of the month was fully 20% below average, while the amount of sunshine was 8% above average, at 469.7 hours, the most in the country.

Shannon was also the warmest place in the country in May, with a mean temperature of 10.8 degrees but it was still the coldest month of May there since 1996.
It was a rather wet May at Shannon, with rainfall five per cent above average. The amount of sunshine was one per cent below average for the month.
