Shanakyle Syndicate swoops for another win

Parteen trainer Joe Collins and members of the Shanakyle Syndicate swooped for another win with their Scariff Hawk at the Limerick Greyhound Racing Stadium last Friday night.
For his seventh career win, the black and white son of Westmead Hawk-Patterdale Duna emerged as winner of the Limerick and Clare GOBA A1 575 final in a time of 31.55. With his trademark slow start and a strong finish, he had three lengths to make up at the home bend.
However, he was on the move at this stage and with the late dash, he got in front near the line to win by a length from Hidden Jester. It was a win savoured by Joe Collins and his wife Kitty, son Peter and daughter Clare, all members of the Shanakyle Syndicate.
This was the second win on the trot and seventh career win for Scariff Hawk.
East Clare trainer Donal Cooney, winner of the Newmarket-on-Fergus GAA A4 Buster final at this venue last week with Two Nifty, returned for anther win on Friday night, this time with a litter brother, Glenside Evens, owned by members of the Green Leaf Syndicate from East Clare.
In the first race of the night – an A2-graded 525 – the black son of Kinloch Brae-Minnies Svetlana got on top of matters to lead around the last two bends on his way to a two-length win in 29.17 from the Denis O’Malley-trained Golden Ring. Members of the winning Syndicate are Clare senior hurler, Conor Cooney from O’Callaghan’s Mills, a nephew of the trainer, Karina Roseingave, Crusheen, Frank O’Meara and Alan Tubridy, Tuamgraney and Pádraig Minogue, Mountshannon.
The Killuran, Broadford trainer was again on the mark at the same venue on Saturday night. Again it was in the very first race on the card in another A2-graded affair over 525 yards.
He had Varra Polly (Head Bound-Varra Lark) in trap three and led from the second bend to register a 29.07 win, half a length in front of Freedom Reno. The winner is owned by members of the Boys Club Syndicate (Jason McMahon and Tony Fennell, Killaloe).
Contentious, owned by Tom Flanagan, Russa, Ennistymon, was runner-up in the last race of the night, the Limerick and Clare GOBA A3 525 final. Contentious and Orlando Lily were in contention over the last two bends and it was Orlando Lily who finished strongest, winning by three lengths in a fast 28.96.
A-trap-to-line win was recorded by the Rathkeale-owned Tally Ho Holly in an A1-graded 525. With the fastest clock of the night – 28.55 – the daughter of Royal Impact-Boozed Queen won by a length and a half from Avocan, trained by Maurice Mullanney, Gort, for Jimmy Glynn, Dunmore. Third spot was taken by Portdrine Queen, owned in Cratloe by Liam Carroll.
There will be two Clare-owned runners in the final of the Limerick and Clare GOBA A3 550 final in Limerick next week. Lismadine Jack (Droopys Vieri-Clonreddan Tina) won the opening semi-final heat for Paddy Troy, Kilkee and Conor McInerney, Clarecastle in Limerick last Monday night. He was in the lead at the opening bend, came with a renewed effort and wound up a 30.47 winner when beating Swedish Birgitta by half a length. Magical Bambi was third home.
Now Its Fionn, owned in Cooraclare by Fionn Lillis, also qualified for the final as runner-up in heat two. In front all the way, Pine Beauty clocked 30.54 for his half-length win. The last qualifier was Rosden Class.
Dromoher Snoopy, owned by Megan Flanagan, Russa, Ennistymon, came in as a reserve in trap five to finish third in a semi-final heat of the Limerick and Clare GOBA A4 over 525 yards.
Ennistymon owner Tom O’Connor was third with Lightning Blue in an S6-graded sprint won by Roman Numeral in 19.28.
