Seven from seven for O’Callaghan’s Mills

O’CALLAGHAN’S Mills made it seven wins from seven starts in this year’s Clare Champion Cup Division 1B race when they defeated Tulla on Saturday in Dr Daly Park.

Goals from Aidan O’Gorman and Jamie Lynch helped them to a 2-6 to 0-4 half-time lead over their neighbours and they continued to hold the upperhand in the second half, on a day when midfielder Bryan Donnellan hit five points from play. The final score was 2-18 to 0-10.

Kilmaley returned to winning ways after their four-goal loss to Ballyea, when they accounted for St Joseph’s, 1-21 to 0-13.

Doora-Barefield were short a lot of regulars and the winning margin could have been greater but St Joseph’s goalkeeper Paul Madden produced some excellent saves. The game’s only goal came in the second half and was scored by Eamonn Bracken.

Tubber also returned to winning ways when they had three points to spare over Whitegate, 1-14 to 2-8, in a hard-fought contest at Tubber.

Pat O’Rourke and his Ballyea charges continue their move up the league table with a 2-19 to 1-9 victory over his home club of Wolfe Tones.

Ruan maintained their recent winning form when they had five points to spare over Scariff, 3-12 to 1-13, at the mid-Clare club’s venue.

With two rounds of games to go, the Mills lead by three points from Tubber. St Joseph’s are next with eight points, with Scariff, Tulla, Ballyea, Kilmaley and Ruan all on six. Whitegate have five points with Wolfe Tones bringing up the rear with two. The Shannon men must win their last two games to have any chance of avoiding relegation.

Division 2

SIXMILEBRIDGE have gone to the top of Division 2 with six wins from seven outings, following their weekend victory over Killanena. Midweek they overcame the challenge of Feakle, who share second spot with Ennistymon, both with five wins from their seven games.

Corofin, Smith O’Brien’s and Inagh-Kilnamona both have four wins from seven starts. Parteen have three wins and a draw from their seven outings with Crusheen next with two wins, followed by Killanena with one win and one draw.

Ogonnelloe bring up the rear, having failed to get a win in any of their league outings to date.
