Second win on the trot for Miltown

St Joseph’s Miltown 0-13

Miltown midfielder Conor Cleary, who scored six points, pointed several second-half frees for the winners while Eoin Cleary, back from injury, Enda Fox and Dessie Molahan added valuable points for Miltown, who lined out without Gordon Kelly, Darragh McDonagh, Colin McGuane and Micheál Malone. Lissycasey 4-11
Liscannor 3-5

In a high-scoring game at Lissycasey on Saturday, the home side kept up their push for a place in the semi-final of the Cusack Cup when they accounted for Liscannor, who remain pointless after five rounds.
The visitors were first to score through Niall Considine but Lissycasey hit back with an equalising point from Daniel Clohessy before Conor Finnucane had their opening goal.
An Alan Clohessy point tied up the game for the second time before Liscannor punished some slack defending and Ronan Slattery found the net at the end of the first quarter.
Three goals between the 19th and 21st minutes turned the game in Lissycasey’s favour.
Some fine combination play created the opportunities and Conor Finnucane, Francis Hayes and Daniel Clohessy applied the finish to send the home side to the break leading 4-2 to 1-3.
Lissycasey dominated the third quarter and hit seven unanswered points, four coming from the boot of full-forward Niall Kelly in a three-minute spell.
Liscannor kept their hopes alive when substitute Ciarán Considine finished a Brian Considine delivery to the net. Their third goal came three minutes from time when Alan Clohessy converted from the penalty spot.
As a result of this victory, Lissycasey are now back in second spot on the league table. They play St Joseph’s in the penultimate round this Thursday evening at Lissycasey.
Best for Lissycasey on Saturday were Martin O’Connor, Cyril Sheehan, Cathal Doohan, Alan Nagle and Niall Kelly while Shane Canavan, Brian and Niall Considine and Alan Clohessy were best for the visitors.

Éire Óg 2-8
St Joseph’s Doora Barefield 0-10

A goal in each half from the unrelated Glynns, Eoin (from the penalty spot in the first half) and Graham, helped Éire Óg to this victory over their neighbours in a game that saw referee Fergal Gray produce a number of cards at Gurteen on Sunday.
There was one red card for St Joseph’s player Paul Dullaghan but a few others can feel fortunate to have finished the tie after a big brawl in the opening half.
At the end of a low-scoring first half, the winners, managed by St Joseph’s man James Hanrahan, led by two points, 1-2 to 0-3.
Early in the second half, the home side hit two points to draw level but Graham Glynn’s goal, midway through the half, put the visitors in a strong position and they held the lead to the finish.
Playing with 14 men proved costly for the home side in the closing quarter on a day when Ivor White kicked five excellent long-range points for the Doora-Barefield men.
Éire Óg: Colin Burke; Ciarán Russell, Brian Dolan, Conor Dolan; Conor Brennan, David Russell, Dean Ryan; Brian Frawley, Darren O’Neill; Liam Corry, Shane Daniels (0-3), Sean O’Meara; Eoin Glynn (1-2), Graham Glynn (1-0), Stephen Hickey (0-3).
