Second-half goals vital for Avenue

Avenue United B came from behind to record a merited win over Turnpike rovers at roslevan on Sunday afternoon

The visitors took the lead through Seanie McNamara but from here on Avenue dominated the game

Two goals from substitute Donal O’Halloran and two more from Nicki Twumasai turned the game in their favour.

Despite the result, Avenue are still bottom of the table and not out of the relegation zone yet.

A share of the spoils resulted when Shannon Olympic A made the journey to O’Briensbridge to play Bridge Celtic on Sunday.

The home side came from behind twice to secure a valuable point. A few days earlier they made a superb rally to snatch victory over  Turnpike Rovers. In that tie they were a goal down with a minute to go but they scored  twice through Conor Hynes and Cian Moloney to claim the points in that game.

On Sunday Olympic’s goals came from Gavin Lundy and Declan McDonald. Daniel Ahern scored the first  for the home side while their second was an own goal.

Strong winds and heavy underfoot conditions made things difficult for the players in this tie played at Sixmilebrige on Sunday.

The winners took the lead through Mike McNamara and this score separated the sides at half-time. Early in the second half they doubled their advantage through McNamara before Stephen Keane converted a free to pull one back for the visitors.

The ’Bridge bounced back quickly and a Christy Griffin strike restored their two goal advantage. In the closing stages Damian Ryan saw his effort rebound off the upright. Both sides finished with 10 men after Johnnie Hayes (Bridge Utd) and Brian McGahern were dismissed.
