Seadna Looking For More Of The Same In Sunday’s Clare SHC Final

If Sixmilebridge are to prevail in Sunday’s Clare senior hurling final, Seadna Morey will be a key figure in their bid to put titles back to back.

The county star has been a central cog in their success over recent years as he provides a constant attacking launchpad in the middle third.

He has also been an ever present on the county squad since his breakthrough in the early part of the last decade saw him being part of the All-Ireland winning panel in 2013, while also being a key man in Clare’s U-21 dominance in that period.

He says finding the balance between club and county panels can often be a difficult task, and feels the format in 2020 of having uninterrupted club action is something that should be maintained for the coming years.

“I really have enjoyed the club scene this year. In other years we would have been focused on the county and only been back to the club when that was over so we might only have been there for two weeks before the championship starts. The fact that we had that five or six weeks with all the players was great and I loved it to be honest. It is brilliant being back in with the people you grew up with and training away together so it was a very enjoyable, albeit strange season. It is great that we can do what we love and hopefully see it through on Sunday. I would be in favour of the plans to split the club and county seasons and I think it is the way it has to go. The club scene is where it is at and there is where you see all the players playing so hopefully the GAA can find a solution to improve things at club level because it needs it and that will only help to grow the sport too” he stated.

The dynamic of champions is something Sixmilebridge have struggled with in recent years but they look to have broken that chain in 2020 by reaching the final as the holders for the first time since 1993. Morey admits carrying the crown brings a different element to the game.

“We have seen over the last few years when we were taking on the likes of Ballyea when they were champions that you automatically get that extra bit of motivation and bring your performance up that extra notch. We have seen that in the teams we have played this year and in previous years when we were champions, we could see when teams got on top of us we didn’t have the right mindset to keep on track in those games. I think that is the difference this year in that we have a brilliant team with great experience and that bit of youth but we also have the mindset now that teams will be going all for us but we need to keep focus and keep composed to do what we do. For the moment, it has gotten us through to the final which is great” he noted.

Sunday’s game will see Morey coming into opposition with former county teammate Patrick Donnellan along with current county teammate Gary Cooney. The derby element is also something he feels will add extra spice to a game he is expecting to go right down to the wire.

“When you play the neighbours there is always that extra bit of motivation because there will always be that little bit of extra banter with the people you know well from the other side. We are up for a massive test against the Mills, and that is a fact. They have had an exceptional year and it has come entirely through hard work and determination in their games. The caliber of teams they have taken out en route to this final is just crazy so we really need to be focused on this. We know they are going to bring a massive test and it will likely be something we have not experienced before. They are going to be ferocious in everything they do so hopefully we can just keep doing what we are doing and keep our composure to come out the right side of it” he said.
