Schoolboys’ league action continues this weekend


THE schoolboys’ soccer season continues this weekend with action in the U-13 and U-15 leagues on Saturday.
On Monday, the U-12 girls’ cup quarter-final will see Lifford take on Bridge United at Cassidy Park and there will be extra time and penalties, if required, in this one.
There will be U-16 boys’ league games on Tuesday while, on Thursday next, U-11 league ties will dominate and there will also be action in the U-14 league.

Hugh Kelly tournament
THE semi-finals of the inaugural Hugh Kelly tournament will be played this Saturday and Sunday at the County Grounds in Doora.
On Saturday, the winners of the quarter-final between Burren United and Bridge United will take on Shannon Olympic at 6pm, while, on Sunday morning at 11am, Coole FC or Avenue United will take on last year’s premier league winners, Newmarket Celtic.
There will be extra time and penalties, if required in all of the games this week.

New season
THE new season will get underway on August 31 with a full round of games in the premier, first, second and third division league cup competitions.
The winners of the premier competition will receive (from the FAI) 25 match tickets to attend an international games at the Aviva Stadium and this is in addition to the cup and winners medals.
Avenue A, Burren United, Rineanna Rovers, Ennis Town Rock and Hermitage A make up Group 1 in the premier competition with Mountshannon Celtic, Lifford A, Newmarket Celtic A, Shannon Olympic A and Tulla United A making up Group 2.
In the first division, there will also be two groups of five. The second and third divisions will also be divided into two groups with group B in the third division comprising six teams.
If two teams finish level on points, group placings will be decided by goal difference. If goal difference is the same, placings will be decided by goals scored. If goals scored are the same, disciplinary record will be taken into account.
