Preparations for the annual Scariff Show are in the final stages and a date for the event has been confirmed for Saturday, September 4, at the Showgrounds.
The usual line-up is promised, with a range of horse classes (qualifiers for Irish draught Filly Foal and Irish Sport Horse Foal), pony classes, show-jumping (qualifiers to Cavan Classic), a donkey section, sheep section and a dog section.
The closing date for entries to the various competitions is August 26.
This year sees the Scariff Show launch a new website www.scariffshow.com. Secretary for the show committee Joanne Allen noted, “Over the last few years, Scariff Show has seen a growth in competitors enquiring about the show by email. The committee is hoping with this new website that everyone will be able to view the schedule of the show at their ease”.
The committee is also anxious to get across to the public that it is not just an event for farmers and horse breeders and includes contests for the best in home baking, arts and crafts, roots and vegetables, flowers and amateur photography. Moreover, children will not be left behind with special competitions, amusements and vintage machinery to keep them enthused.
Now in its 66th year, the show has changed since its origins as local priorities have changed, with cattle, pig and poultry classes giving way to a wider variety of horse classes, show-jumping and dog classes.
“Our show has grown from strength to strength and it continues to be a highlight in the East Clare area with people getting involved right across the board in all aspects of the show day,” Ms Allen concluded.
