Scariff capture Division 2 Hurling League title

Scariff won the inaugural Division 2 Hurling League title when they comprehensively beat Ruan at Tulla on Saturday evening last.
The winners led throughout and had an eight-point cushion at half time.
Both teams went into this final on the back of unbeaten runs in their respective championships, Scariff in the senior B and Ruan at intermediate level.
Both were already assured of promotion to Division 1B for next year’s league.
Ruan were short a few regulars for this outing but they were expected to provide a stiffer test for the East Clare outfit. Scariff grabbed the initiative from the opening minutes and quickly raced into a comfortable lead. At half-time they were well on their way to the title when they led 0-13 to 0-5.
After the game Clare GAA chairman Michael O’Neill presented the trophy to the winning Scariff captain, Cathal Nash.

Newmarket         0-14

Inagh-Kilnamona were crowned Division 3 Hurling League champions at Clareabbey on Sunday evening when they overcame the challenge of Newmarket.
Helped by a goal from Cathal McConigley, the winners were five points clear at half-time. They got a tremendous start to the second half when Gerry Coote scored their second goal shortly after play resumed.
Wing-forward Barry Keating hit five points from play for the mid-Clare outfit.
After the game, Clare GAA’s cultural officer, Tom Burke, presented the trophy to the winners’ captain, goalkeeper Christopher O’Looney.

A draw resulted when Scariff and Newmarket clashed in the Division 5 (Junior B) Hurling League final at Tulla on Sunday.
Scariff played with the aid of the breeze in the first half and raced into a five-point lead. At the break they were 0-8 to 0-4 in front. In the second half, Newmarket fought back to earn a second chance.
