Rose is Clare Games’ first honorary patron

Rose Meakins was named honorary patron at the executive meeting of Clare Community Games last week in recognition of her outstanding service the organisation.

Rose stood down as county treasurer at the AGM after 23 years. She first became involved in Community Games when she joined Shannon in 1976 and was delegate to the county commottee.

She transferred to Sixmilebridge on moving out to Deerpark in 1978. She was elected delegate to the county committee for the ’Bridge and was area treasurer for a number of years. She was a very active member of the county development committee in the mid ’90s and visited every school in County Clare with Cecelia O’Sullivan, now vice-president, to promote the games.

Rose’s two sons, Stuart and Vincent both moved to the USA and she now has eight grandchildren aged 6 to 19 all involved in Sports and Music in the USA. Despite this she continued to dedicate her time to Community Games. She has attended every National Finals in Mosney and now Athlone in various managerial capacities for over 30 years.

Rose was county delegate to the national AGM for many years prior to her husband, Graham becoming national delegate. She has worked hard to maintain good relations with suppliers, and sponsors and Clare County Council throughout and greatly appreciates their continued support.

Rose will continue to be actively involved and will continue to co-ordinate the All Star awards held each October to honour the talented children for the year. This year’s function is already booked for Friday October 18. She will also be involved in the county athletics finals in Lees Road on June 24 and with the co-ordination of the programme for the finals.

Rose this week thanked the many people who assisted her during her 23 years as treasurer.
