Éire Óg and Clare GAA referee Rory Hickey will take charge of his first All-Ireland senior football quarter-final on Sunday.
He has been appointed to handle the meeting of Cork and Mayo at Croke Park on Sunday afternoon at 4pm.
This will be Rory’s fifth match to referee in this year’s championship. His most recent was the Armagh v Wicklow replay at Aughrimand while he earlier took charge of the Connacht semi-final between Galway and Mayo and the Munster semi-final between Kerry and Limerick.
Earlier in the season, Rory was the standby referee for the Sligo v Leitrim Connacht championship clash and when the appointed official Joe Curley suffered an injury in the early minutes, the Ennis man had to step in.
On the domestic front, Rory is a busy dual referee and, in addition, he fits in playing at junior level for his club in hurling and football.
Surprisingly omitted from the list of referees for last year’s senior championship, he has been in much demand since being recalled to the squad this season.
