Return of Reach for the Stars

AFTER a six-year hiatus, Gort’s hugely entertaining show Reach for the Stars is making a return this April in the town’s newly revamped community centre.
The show involves amateur performers singing to the professional backing of their favourite artist or band.
“Produced by the local non-profit group, Five Star Events, this show has been a total sell-out due to the high level of presentation and fun, mixing very talented performers with the, let’s just say, more amusing style act,” explained Austin McInerney.
“The show combines Eurovision-style voting with some old favourites, like the Green Room for the acts and short video advertising clips for the sponsors. Some of these from the past can be seen on our Facebook page or Youtube if you look for Reach For The Stars, Gort,” Austin continued.
This year, each act in the show will be backed by a sponsor. They will represent a local group, charity or cause and if they win, the prize money will be donated to this organisation. The exact prize money is not yet known but it will be a four-figure sum.
“The cost of sponsorship is a very recession-friendly zero. It costs absolutely nothing to enter an act, just put effort into providing an act that will entertain the paying audience,” Austin suggested.
There will be a full bar on the night, so there is a restriction on age of entry of 16 or over.
Previous winners of Reach for the Stars have performed songs by Tina Turner, The Saw Doctors and Andrea Bocelli, among others. Already a number of people have confirmed their interest and will perform numbers by Lady GaGa, The Rubber Bandits and Status Quo, among others. The number of acts that will perform is limited and those wishing to take part or sponsor an act can contact Martin on 087 2647579 or find Five Star Events on their Reach For The Stars: Gort Facebook page.
“This is a fun event that is sure to entertain and highlight worthy causes around South Galway and North Clare. We hope lots of people will make it,” Austin concluded.
Reach for the Stars takes place in Gort Community Centre on April 16.
