LAST weekend Kilkee Marine Rescue marked the 30th anniversary of their establishment in 1981.
The group was established by Manuel Di Lucia and currently caters for 40 members, about 15 of whom are actively involved when called out.
Manuel estimates that the organisation has rescued in excess of 500 people from the waters around Kilkee and West Clare over the three decades since its inception.
During that period, approximately 40 rescue efforts have become recovery missions when people were lost at sea.
Manuel stresses membership is the key to keeping Kilkee Marine Rescue up and running. The group is always open to new members and full training is given to anybody interested in joining.
Kieran de Loughrey is their chief coxen, while John Nolan is the launching authority.
Last Saturday at the group’s 30th anniversary dinner at the Bellbridge House Hotel, Kieran de Loughrey, John Nolan and Adrian Kenny were presented with awards for their dedication and contribution to Kilkee Marine Rescue.
