Readjust for New Quay exhibition

READJUST the Focus, Remember the Absence is a new exhibition, which has opened at the Russell Gallery in New Quay and is running for the month of July.

It features the work of three members of the Engelbrecht family, who have come together on a single artistic project for the first time. All three of them draw on themes of memory, stillness and trace.
Though stylistically very different, the work is imbued with a meditative quality echoing the process in which it was made and the ideas that fuelled the making. The exhibition features painting, photography, intaglio printing and drawing and will be kindly opened by well-known potter, Michael Roche.
Musa Engelbrecht is based in Kinvara and he is the father of the other two artists. In this exhibition, he continues his journey of remembering in a collection of oils and acrylics, capturing the healing calm of still moments and simple pleasures. Safia Engelbrecht Waller is a multi-media artist with an interest in graphic design, interior design, textiles, photography and print.
Currently, her practice is concerned with the trace and memory of human presence. She uses digital photography and photo-intaglio etching prints to convey the absence of presence in familiar places. Zulaikha Engelbrecht is a visual artist and curator who is based in Galway.
She completed her studies in Galway in ’09 and was a board membery of an artist-run gallery in the city last year. She is an employee of the Galway Arts Centre.
