Quin woman to represent Ireland

Hazel O’Gorman from Quin has qualified to represent Ireland on the 2012 Irish Ladies’ Flyfishing team. This is her first cap for the team, which this year will take part in the International Ladies Flyfishing Championships being held on the Lake of Menteith in Scotland from May 21 to 24.

She began fishing in 2009 and even though only a beginner. has already built her own fishing rod.
The 2012 team will be captained by Julie Gerry, who achieved that accolade by winning the ‘lady angler of the year’ title and trophy for 2011. The trophy is presented to the outright winner of the league, which the Irish Ladies’ Flyfishing Association runs each year in order to select their team.
The other members of the team are Susan Brown, (Lisburn, Antrim); Jenny Casey, (Clane, Kildare); Stephanie Troy, (Donabate, Dublin); Mary Murphy, (Millstreet, Cork); Niamh Breen, (Kenmare, Kerry); Linda Straghan, (Derryhennett, Armagh); Madeleine Kelly, (County Down) and Jean Johnston (Lisburn Antrim).
Information about the ILFA’s annual league and to join the ILFA is available on www.irishladiesflyfishing.com. People must be 18 or over to take part in ILFA events.
