Pupils put on their Dreamcoat

An eclectic mixture of different genres of music should ensure a biblical story produced by a North Clare school provides plenty of side-splitting entertainment.

Rock, pop, country and reggae added to a big splash of colours are just some of the features of this classic musical.
Performing arts has become a very popular extra-curricular subject over the past 15 years at the North Clare school. All students are encouraged to participate, which helps develop their confidence and communicative skills.
In addition to the introduction of music as an exam subject in recent years and dance classes at the local Broadway Dance, there is never a shortage of budding stars.
Every year the school stages a production and following last year’s musical, Grease, the staff and pupils have once again decided to thread the boards.
The interesting tale of Jacob, who gifts his youngest son, Joseph, a spectacular coat which makes his brothers so jealous, will be staged in the Pavillion Hall, Lisdoonvarna.
Through song and dance the cast, choir and orchestra hope to enthral their audiences with a high-tempo production of this well-known musical.
The story is told by narrators Katie Connole and Serena MacGillivary, while Kieran Tynne, who plays the roll of Joseph, helps Pharoah (David Sims) by interpreting his dreams.
Popular songs from the show include Any Dream Will Do, Go Go Joseph and Song Of The Pharoah. With 35 students on stage backed up 12 in the orchestra and aided by Mark Mulqueeney, director, Liz Shannon, choreographer, and Mairéad Ní Chonduin, musical director, a highly colourful and entertaining night is guaranteed.
Matinees will be held next Tuesday and Wednesday at 11am while evening performances will be held next Wednesday and Friday, February 10, at 8pm. Tickets are available from 065 7074266.
