Fashionistas in East Clare will get a rare treat this Friday night as some well-known locals and politicians strut their stuff on the catwalk at a fundraising fashion show in Scariff Community College.
Among those stepping out for the event, which is aimed at raising funds for interactive whiteboards at Scariff National School, are deputies Timmy Dooley and Michael McNamara.
They will be joined by Mayor of Clare, Pat Hayes, and his fellow local county councillors from East Clare, Pat Burke from Whitegate and Joe Cooney from O’Callaghan’s Mills. The line up of models will be completed by some local characters and past pupils of the national school.
The event will be held at 8pm at the hall in Scariff Community College and will be compered by Scariff parish priest, Fr Brendan Quinlivan.
While there will be some fun garments on show, fashionistas will also get an opportunity to see some of the latest collections from local boutiques such as Michael Corbett’s of Tulla, Tommy O’Donnell’s in Ennis, Lady Penelope’s in Killaloe, All Occasions and Ladies Day of Portumna, Willow in Ennis, Carrig Donn, and Esperance of Feakle.
In addition, there will also be market stalls and entertainment will be provided by Kate Purcell and Denise Glass.
This is the first big fundraiser towards the purchase of interactive whiteboards for Scariff National School and it has been organised by local parents who came together to form a fundraising committee.
Chairperson of the committee is Anne Giblin, who explained why there is a need for such fundraising.
“Since the Government funding has been cut significantly, schools are now having to raise funds themselves. Our new principal is very interested in developing the IT area and so we would hope to raise a nice amount from this fundraiser. We estimate that up to 400 people will attend,” Anne said.
Tickets are currently available locally at Centra, O’Meara’s Pharmacy and at Ger Treacy’s filling station in Scariff and can also be purchased on the door on the night.
