Dublin 1-9   Clare 0-12

CLARE ended the round-robin stage of the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship series with a draw against Dublin in Parnell Park on Saturday afternoon.

Dublin, playing with the aid of a strong breeze in the opening half, were on the attack from the throw-in and saw their opening-minute shot on goal stopped and cleared by Denise Lynch. Mairi Moynihan opened the scoring for Dublin with a converted free. Kate Lynch intercepted a long-range Moynihan free in the seventh minute and after a solo run against play, sent a pass to Naomi Carroll, who fired over for Clare’s opening score.
Moynihan and Aisling Carolan pointed for the home side before Claire McMahon, fed by Susan Fahy, registered Clare’s second point. In a physical contest, Dublin were thwarted by the Clare defence of Máire McGrath, Marian O’Brien and Carol O’Leary. Dublin’s Laura Twomey put Dublin two in front in the 20th minute, before Clare hit three points through Carroll, Fahy and McMahon (free) to put the visitors in front by the minimum with three minutes remaining in the opening half. Muireann O’Gorman pointed in the 31st minute to leave the sides level at the break on 0-5 each.
The sides traded points in the first 10 minutes of the second half, with Dublin levelling matters each time Clare pulled ahead. Dublin’s Amy Murphy struck for the only goal of the game in the 41st minute, after a Louise O’Hara free into the Clare square wasn’t cleared. McMahon converted a free, which Moynihan cancelled out to keep Dublin in front by a goal.
Fahy and McMahon pulled two back for Clare before a Clare attack saw the visitors awarded a 45’ as Dublin scrambled to prevent a Clare goal. McMahon duly converted to level matters.
Carolan was on target for Dublin in the 56th minute. However, when Nikki Kaiser won possession for Clare on the wing, she sent her shot crossfield to substitute Sinéad Tuohy who fired over for Clare to level matters in a game which saw the sides level on seven occasions.
Clare now await the outcome of the play-off game between Cork and Tipperary on August 21 to see who they play in the qualifiers a week later.
