Players told ‘watch your language’

FOLLOWING a meeting between Bord na nÓg Iomaint, the Clare Referees’ Association and the county board coaching officer Eamonn Fennessy, it has been agreed that referees will visit the dressing rooms before all U-14 games to explain what will be expected in terms of discipline.

“We are determined to stamp out the use of bad language and we hope this initiative will play a big part in that.

“This was in force during the recent Féile na nGael competition and it worked well. We had no problems as regards discipline during the Féile matches,” Bord na nÓg chairman Martin Reynolds told The Clare Champion this week.

“This move has been welcomed by Pat O’Shea coaching officer with the Munster Council as a great initiative, which could be used in all counties,” said Reynolds.

“Discipline towards the tail end of last season wasn’t good and this move is introduced in an effort to improve matters.

“We will meet with the referees again after the championship to review this,” the board official said before paying tribute to referee officials Ger Lyons and John Dolan for their input.
