Pedal power generates €10,000 in the name of Jayden

A RECENT charity cycle, organised in the name of a brave Killaloe toddler who has had numerous major operations, raised a massive €10,000, local organisers have confirmed.
Touched by the heart-rendering story of Jayden Conway, two Killaloe men William Byrnes of Millstream and Ben Murphy of St Flannan’s Road, decided to support ‘Jayden’s Journey’ by donating money from a cycle to Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin, Dublin, where he has spent months receiving treatment.
Last month, up to 50 cyclists set off on a 112km round trip from Killaloe to Ennis and the group received a rousing reception from residents when they returned to the Cathedral town.
Nuala Conway described the proceeds from this year’s cycle as “fantastic”.
“Everyone was so generous and supportive when it came to putting their hand in their pockets to support a unit where Jayden has been treated.
“The whole day was fantastic, everything went off so well. €10,000 is a huge sum of money to raise for such a relatively small community in Killaloe. I am sure the staff in the nephrology ward will be delighted with the money that has been raised,” she said.
She said Jayden is still getting regular infections, which require trips to the doctor and hospitalisation.
William Byrnes and Ben Murphy acknowledged everyone who participated and helped out with the cycle.
“We got great support for a few very special few days that meant so much to everyone in Killaloe. We are delighted with the amount we raised and we hope to see them all again helping out next year,” said William Byrnes.
