Paddy Casey to join Shannon Gospel Choir

SHANNON Gospel Choir will be joining forces with acclaimed singer-songwriter, Paddy Casey for a concert at The Oakwood Arms on October 21.

The 20-member choir was formed in February of 2009 and they has sung with the Harlem Gospel Choir twice, supported Paul Brady and participated in a number of charity concerts. Venues the choir has performed at include Glór, LIT and the University Concert Hall in Limerick. They also appeared on RTÉ 1 TV this year.
The choir will sing songs not normally heard at the local monthly masses they are at. They will open proceedings, being followed by an acoustic set from Paddy Casey and then the two acts will come together, singing some of Paddy’s new songs and some covers.
Speaking about the concert, Derek Barrett of the Choir said, “Of course we will do a few gospel songs but this is also a chance to do a few other ones that were in the charts. They’ll have a gospel feel and they still have a positive message, songs like Jesse J’s Pricetag and September by Earth Wind and Fire”.
The choir first encountered Paddy Casey when appearing as his guests for a gig at Dolan’s Warehouse in Limerick in 2009. On the night they sang six songs with him and he promised to return the favour in the future, resulting in the October concert.
