On-screen insight into Willie Clancy Week

A FEATURE-length documentary, The Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy 40th Anniversary, will premiere at the Armada Hotel, Spanish Point next weekend.

The documentary will be shown on a giant screen in the hotel on Sunday, May 26 at 3pm. Special guests will attend, with informal music sessions before and after the showing.

The film gives a fascinating and revealing insight into the first 40 years of Ireland’s largest traditional music summer school. Jack Healy and Martin O’Malley of Malbay Films, an independent film production company, directed and produced the film.

The project was produced in association with Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy and is dedicated to the memory of Muiris Ó Rócháin.

Featuring Martin Hayes, Noel Hill, Johnny Connolly, the Kilfenora Céilí Band, Edel Fox, Rick Epping and Mick Kinsella, Michael Falsey, Kieran Hanrahan, Conor Keane, James Kelly, Hugh, Eric Healy, John Joe Tuttle, Michael Tubridy and many more, the film captures the essence of the summer school.

It focuses on the festival’s ethos as a non-competitive forum for students of all levels to learn Irish traditional music. The film portrays the characteristic spirit of Willie Clancy Week, as it has come to be known.
A series of interviews were conducted with local people, musicians, students, teachers and staff of the summer school for the finished product and legendary performances from Ireland’s top musicians run throughout.

The event is free and all are welcome to attend.
