O’Callaghan’s Mills/Bodyke on top in U-14A

O’Callaghan’s Mills Bodyke 3-8   Sixmilebridge 2-5

THE ’Bridge lost out to the amalgamation of O’Callaghan’s Mills/Bodyke last Friday evening in Kilkishen in Round 4 of the U-14A Hurling Championship.

The hosts went 1-3 ahead courtesy of full-forward Gary Cooney. A fantastic save from Eric Purcell in the 13th minute inspired the ’Bridge and full-forward Mark Gaule blasted to the net. The East Clare outfit responded almost immediately with a goal from Cooney restoring their six-point lead. As half-time approached, the ’Bridge forwards were doing well with Gaule particularly impressive adding four points, three of which came from play.

Bodyke-O’Callaghan’s Mills led by a goal at half-time. Cooney added the first score of the second half with a fine point from play before Gaule got his second goal to put the minimum between the sides. However, just as in the first half, the amalgamation responded with a major of their own. The sides traded points before the sending off of Eanna Chaplain on a second yellow card.

This defeat leaves the ’Bridge in danger of missing out on the semi finals. They must now win all their remaining games to have a chance of making the last four.

With the league at the halfway stage, Inagh-Kilnamona and defending champions O’Callaghan’s Mills-Bodyke look set for semi-final spots, while St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield, Clarecastle and  Sixmilebridge will fight it out for the two remaining spots.

Bodyke and Whitegate are on top in the C Grade with the two remaining semi-final spots between The Banner, Crusheen/Tubber and Ennistymon.
