O’Callaghan’s Mills-Bodyke U-14s lead the way

A third of the way through the U-14 Hurling Championship, O’Callaghan’s Mills-Bodyke are on top with full points while both clubs, on their own, are doing well in the C grade.
Ballyea are in first position in the B with full points, while it is very close in the D grade, with Smith O’Brien’s, Ennistymon and Ruan all level at the top but Smith O’Brien’s have a game extra played.
In the special grade for clubs with two teams, Doora-Barefield are the early leaders.

Cratloe 1-15
Feakle-Killanena 3-6

Cratloe travelled to Feakle on Friday evening to play Feakle-Killanena. Conditions were poor due to a heavy downpour as the match got underway. Cratloe opened the scoring with a point from Evan Gaule. Both teams exchanged scores and at half-time, there was only two points between the teams, Cratloe 1-7, Feakle/Killeana 1-5. Cratloe started the second half strongly and scored some fine points from play. The visitors were six points up with a minute to go when Feakle-Killanena were awarded a 21m free and Cathal Noonan’s shot was deflected to the net.

Bodyke/O’Callaghan’s Mills 3-7
Wolfe Tones 1-9

Bodyke/O’Callaghan’s Mills gained revenge for their defeat in the Féile quarter-final with a four-point win over Wolfe Tones in this U-14A Championship game played in Bodyke last Friday.
Wolfe Tones had the upperhand in the first half and held a four-point lead at half-time. Bodyke-O’Callaghan’s Mills upped their performance after half-time and goals from Liam O’Donnell, Gary Cooney and Ian Murray sealed victory for the East Clare side. Best for the winners were Michael Cotter, Podge O’Riordan, Liam O’Donnell, Paul Kelleher, Ben McLoughlin and Ian Murray.

Clonlara 5-4
Inagh-Kilnamona 2-5

Clonlara accounted for Inagh-Kilnamona in this tie last Friday. The winners led 3-3 to 0-2 at half-time on a day when Padraic Campbell scored 4-2, with David Fitzgerald getting the other goal.

Doora Barefield 3-3
Clarecastle 2-4

In the U-14 special competition for clubs with a second U-14 team, Doora-Barefield and Clarecastle played an exciting and close game in Clarecastle last Wednesday. Clarecastle started brightly and had two points on the board early on. Doora Barefield settled and goals from Tadhg Kelleher and Eoin Thynne edged them into a lead. Clarecastle fought back in the closing minutes of the first half and scored a goal from a close-in free to leave the score at half-time Doora Barefield 3-3 Clarecastle 1-2. The second half was evenly contested, with scores hard to come by. Half-way through the second half Eoin Thynne got through for his second goal.

Clarecastle 5-10
Doora-Barefield 4-2

Cathal Ruane opened the scoring for Doora-Barefield in the first minute with an excellent goal. However, by half time, Clarecastle were 4-4 to 3-1 in front at the break.
Doora-Barefield fought back strongly in the second half but the Féile finalists held firm and emerged as deserving winners.

Kilmaley 5-10
Sixmilebridge 1-9

Favourites Kilmaley accounted for Sixmilebridge on Sunday evening in the U-14 Championship played in perfect conditions in O’Garney Park.
Sixmilebridge opened the brighter with three points from the impressive Pa Mulready.
In the 10th minute, Kilmaley got through for a great solo goal before adding two more unanswered points. The switch of Cian McInerney into the backs proved a valuable one, as he made a brilliant goal-line save on 20 minutes. Then, aided with great goalkeeping by Steve Slattery and heroic full-back play from Oisín Fitzpatrick, Sixmilebridge kept Féile winners Kilmaley out for the remainder of the half. At the half-time whistle, Kilmaley led by 1-3 to 0-4.
The second half began where the first half left off with Kilmaley having to work extremely hard to get their scores. Between the 40th and the 48th minutes Kilmaley got in for three goals, one a very impressive effort from Aidan Kennedy, who had a hat-trick of goals on the day.

Corofin-Ruan 3-5
Scariff-Ogonnelloe 0-6

Corofin-Ruan made the journey to Dr Stewart Park, Ogonnelloe, last Friday evening. Scariff-Ogonnelloe opened with a well-taken point from play from Mark Walsh and went on to lead at half-time 0-4 to 0-2.
Ten minutes into the second half, the visitors got through for a goal, which gave them a slight edge. They added two further goals to seal a merited win.

Bodyke 6-6
Éire Óg 3-6

In what was an entertaining game on Monday evening in Bodyke, the home team defeated Éire Óg by nine points in round three of the C championship. Éire Óg got off to great start and had two goals scored in the first five minutes but some good switches by the Bodyke selectors got the home side back into the game and goals from Ian Murray and Peter Flower had the home side leading on a score of 3-2 to 2-3 at half-time.
Éire Óg were caught napping in the first 10 minutes of the second half, with Bodyke scoring 2-2 without reply, the goals scored by Oisín Slattery and Cian Minogue.
A goal from a penalty by Ian Murray with eight minutes to go sealed victory for Bodyke, Éire Óg added their third goal in injury time.
Best for Bodyke were Ciarán Hickey, Fionn and Oisín Slattery, Cian Minogue, Ian Murray, Cathal Doyle and Sean Perrill.
