NUI Galway will host this season’s Ashbourne Cup Camogie Championship on February 19 and 20. The hosting of the prestigious competition follows NUIG’s successful hosting of Fitzgibbon 2010, which culminated in ending a 30-year wait for success for the university.
The quarter-finals of the Ashbourne Cup took place earlier this week when the hosts who last won the title in 1994, took on the reigning champions, Waterford IT.
The management team of NUIG includes Richard McNicholas, who has been involved at underage inter-county level management and U-21 hurler of the year, Seamus Hennessy, who is a current scholarship student in NUIG.
NUIG chairperson and club captain is Offaly’s Michaela Morkhan.
Gaelic games officer at the Galway college is Crusheen’s Michael O’Connor and a
number of Clare players will be part of the Galway panel for the championship.
