THE Clare Camogie Association participated in the 2013 Pan Celtic Festival, which took place in Carlow from last week. Inagh-Kilnamona Camogie Club competed in the U-16A grade. Grouped with Douglas from Cork, Toomevara and Newport/Ballinahinch from Tipperary and Glynn Barntown from Wexford, the Clare girls won all four games in their group, which was played on a league basis at Éire Óg GAA grounds, Carlow on Saturday.
Their fourth game on Saturday against Newport/Ballinahinch, Tipperary was a tough battle. Aoife Keane playing at centre-forward and scored 1-2 from play, adding 0-2 from frees. Chloe McNamara finished off with 0-1 from play, leaving the final score at 1-5 to 0-4.
The Inagh/Kilnamona girls had an early start on Sunday, having to travel to Carlow IT for the final, which was set for 11.30am. They again played Newport/Ballinahinch and emerged victorious on a 1-6 to 0-3 scoreline.
With only four points separating the teams the previous day, the final lived up to its expectations of a very close contest. Both sides were very evenly matched and the Clare girls found it difficult to break down a very strong Newport/Ballinahinch defence. Aoife Keane accounted for all of Inagh/Kilnamona scores, while in defence, Claire Hehir, Orlaith Cotter, Teresa O’Keeffe and Marie O’Looney were outstanding.
Afterwards, team captain Marie O’Looney was presented with the Pan Celtic Cup by Bríd de Roiste.
The members of the panel were Rebecca and Amy Keating, Teresa and Andrea O’Keeffe, Aoife Keane, Claire Hehir, Chloe Foudy, Ciara Fitzgerald, Jane Fitzgerald, Orlaith Cotter, Róisín Longe, Rebecca O’Leary, Marie O’Looney (captain), Sarah Cotter, Sinéad Power, Michelle Flanagan, Chloe McNamara, Laoise Ryan and Róisín Clancy.
