No senior management yet as first match looms

AS Friday’s Clare Ladies Football County Board AGM approaches, the county’s senior management vacancy has yet to be filled.

Kilkee’s Darragh Kelly held the post for the 2012 championship as Clare reached the All-Ireland quarter-final, where they lost to Galway. He had replaced Noelle Comyn, who resigned from the position after Clare’s Division 2 League semi-final loss to Galway.

In recent months, current Clare County Board chairman, Alan Copley and Carmel Bohannon (Shannon Gaels) have been attempting to recruit a new management team. However, management has yet to be finalised.

The Clare ladies will begin their NFL Division 2 campaign in early February and the senior panel returned to training on Wednesday of this week.

It is expected that Friday’s AGM will herald significant change in the executive as both the outgoing secretary, Michael Fitzgerald, and outgoing treasurer, Trudy Davenport, indicated at a recent county board meeting that they were not seeking reappointment to their posts for 2013.

Furthermore, current chairman, Alan Copley is now working in Wicklow during the week and may not have the time to remain on as chairman.

Former chairman Johnny Hayes is one of the nominees for the post, along with Alan Copley, Davy Browne and PRO, Mary Keane.

The latter has indicated she is not interested in assuming the role of chairperson, while the Fergus Rovers clubwoman is also standing down as PRO. Clarecastle’s Eoin Brennan has been nominated as PRO. Friday’s AGM will be held in the West County Hotel, Ennis at 8pm.

The full list of nominations is: chairperson, Davy Browne (Doonbeg), Johnny Hayes (Fergus Rovers), Mary Keane (Fergus Rovers); vice-chairperson, Carmel Bohannon (Shannon Gaels), Pat Keane (Miltown); secretary, Michael Fitzpatick, Johnny Hayes; assistant secretary, Edel Conway (Doonbeg), Martina O’Gorman (Kilmihil); treasurer, Carmel Considine (Liscannor), Trudy Davenport (Doora Barefield); assistant treasurer, Carmel Bohannon, Colette Corry (Shannon Gaels); registrar, James Lafferty; development officer: Alan Copley, Kieran Harvey, Ml.
