No Name’s Suzanne the toast of Gort

Gort’s Suzanne O’Donnell was named No Name Club’s hostess of the year at the national finals in Kilkenny at the weekend.

The 17-year-old was among 10 finalists interviewed on stage by the MC. Suzanne also performed a party piece at the National Youth Awards Ball in the Lyrath Hotel on Saturday night.

“I am delighted and really honoured,” Suzanne told The Clare Champion.

“I am looking forward to the year ahead and what it has to hold. I had a really lovely time at the awards and I was really quite surprised to win as well.”

Suzanne is the first hostess to represent Gort No Name Club in the national finals and only the second ever member to win the top award after Cathal Broderick, who was named host of the year last year.

No Name Club aims to provide an alternative to Ireland’s pub culture for Irish people.

Last week Suzanne told  Clare Champion readers that she had only been in the club for two years and is involved in lots of activities through Gort NNC, including Tidy Towns.

The Gort Community School Leaving Certificate pupil is planning to take part in a charity skydive on May 6 in Birr, County Offaly, in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. Suzanne is holding a quiz on Friday night in Johnny Walshe’s pub in the Square, Gort at 8.30pm. All are welcome to attend.

Suzanne will hold the title of No Name Club Hostess of the Year until next April. Kilkenny’s Alan Hayes was named host of the year.
