Niamh Parsons to headline charity Ciúnas concert

NIAMH Parsons, along with Clare-based guitarist Graham Dunne, will perform at a special concert in the Community Hall in Feakle on Friday, February 1 at 8pm.

The concert is in aid of Ciúnas Centre in Feakle, which provides low-cost holistic treatments to carers. This is the fourth year Ciúnas has held a benefit concert to help with the running costs of the centre. after a very successful concert last year with Jack L, this year’s headliner is Niamh Parsons, who has created a very strong following for her brand of traditional singing, both at home and abroad.

Niamh has been described as one of the best Irish balladeers of her generation. Originally from Dublin, Niamh has recorded six studio albums to date and tours on a regular basis. She has been a member of Galway-based band Arcady, has appeared before former US president Bill Clinton, recorded with Grammy Award winner Paul Winter and was the special guest at the Johnston’s reunion series of concerts last year.

Also appearing on the night will be Brendan Hearty, originally from Dundalk but now living in East Clare, along with Lena Ullman – both members of the popular Higglers’ Jug Band.

Kate Theasby lives in Kilfenora and is a singer, flute and whistle player. Ruth Marshall will be performing her poetry at the concert and there will also be some special guests.

According to Tonia Kusters, a founder of Ciúnas, “We are delighted to once again have a concert for Ciúnas. While the centre tries to be as self-sufficient as possible, it does need some fundraising to continue to provide our services to people and we are thrilled that everybody is so willing to once again perform for the organisation.”

Tickets and can be booked from Ciúnas at 061 924837.
