Newmarket Rose bound for Tralee

MARIE Donnellan from Newmarket-on-Fergus has qualified to represent Clare at the Rose of Tralee Festival this summer.

She was selected at the Rose of Tralee Regional Festival and after getting through, was in a state of shock. “It’s 2006 since a Clare Rose went through and while you’re hopeful when you come to Portlaoise, you meet 60 other unbelievable girls and after a few hours you think you don’t have a hope but you just get on with it. I can’t believe they called out my name, I’m crying like an eijit for the last 20 minutes.” she said shortly after being selected.

A qualified accountant working in Apple, the 25-year-old from Newmarket-on-Fergus isn’t long home from a year spent travelling. She is the secretary of her local Tidy Towns committee and her interests include mural art, GAA and horse racing.
