Newmarket and Kilmaley through to league final

NEWMARKET and Kilmaley will clash in the senior camogie league final after their wins over Kilkishen and Scariff-Ogonnelloe on Sunday.
Newmarket had a comfortable win over Kilkishen but Kilmaley had to battle all the way for a one-point success over the East Clare amalgamation.

Newmarket 3-12  Kilkishen 0-4

NEWMARKET easily secured their league final spot on Sunday afternoon in Clarecastle with a win over Kilkishen. The East Clare side were first on the board with a point inside the first minute and both sides traded points for the first quarter of the game.
Áine O’Brien’s free in the 23rd minute was the turning point for Newmarket, however, as she found the Kilkishen net. Newmarket, now in the driving seat, pushed on from here adding another goal and two points, leaving them 2-5 to 0-3 ahead at the break.
Newmarket, who were better able to take advantage of the strong wind, kept on the pressure throughout the second half and ran out comfortable winners against a gallant Kilkishen side.

Kilamley through to final

LEAGUE title-holders Kilmaley bagged their final spot after a hard-fought battle against Scariff/Ogonnelloe in woeful weather conditions on Sunday afternoon. Kilmaley, who played with the aid of a strong wind in the first half, had two goals disallowed for square infringements. Anne Marie Fitzgerald for Scariff/Ogonnelloe at the other end, saw both her efforts find the Kilmaley net, and the East Clare girls went in at the break two points up, on a scoreline of 2-2 to Kilmaley’s 1-4. The second half was low scoring, with only six points scored between both sides. Scarriff-Ogonnelloe opened the scoring with a point from Mairéad Scanlon, after Susan Vaughan laid of a pass to her from midfield. Kilmaley responded with a pointed free, before Scanlon again pointed to put the amalgamated team ahead by two points. Kilmaley upped the tempo for the last quarter and their experience showed as they came to grips with the determined East Clare girls.
Two points from Shonagh Enright brought the sides level and Helen McMahon pointed with four minutes remaining to push Kilmaley in front. Despite their best efforts, Scariff-Ogonnelloe could not breach a solid Kilmaley defence and lost out on the minimum of margins.
