DUBLIN senior hurling manager and Clare All-Ireland-winning captain Anthony Daly will launch a new Burren Walk at the Michael Cusack Centre in Carron on Saturday.

The new 6km-return walk links the centre with Cahercommaun Stone Fort which was established around 800AD.
“Cahercommaun is one of the finest inland cliff forts in existence on the island of Ireland. Its high altitude offers spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. The trail is rated as easy to moderate and is accommodated by stiles for easy access through this unique and beautiful terrain. There are a number of historical monuments on route to the cliff fort. Christine Grant, archaeologist with the National Monuments Service will accompany the walkers and will be on hand to point out all areas of archaeological and historical interest,” explained Antoinette Considine from the Michael Cusack Centre.
This trail was developed with the assistance of the National Monuments Service, National Parks and Wildlife Service, Burren Connect, Clare Local Development Company, Fás and local landowners.
Martin O’Loghlen, chairman of the Michael Cusack Centre has described this walk as “a magnificent example of State agencies working in partnership with local community groups for the development of ecotourism in the Burren.”
“It is wonderful to see this walk reaching fruition. Carron is a very special area both historically and culturally and now the public will be afforded the opportunity to explore new areas of this unique and beautiful landscape,” he added.
Mr O’Loghlen expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the development of the walk and encouraged everyone to use and enjoy the new addition to the tourism infrastructure of the Burren.
“Michael Cusack himself would very much have approved of this new walk. Cusack was a great proponent of the benefits of health and fitness, which was evident in his championing of Gaelic Games,” he said.
The walk will be launched by former hurler Anthony Daly, . Carron National School and Gael Scoil Mhíchíl Cíosóg, Inis will perform at the launch. Light refreshments will be served afterwards at the Michael Cusack Centre. The walk is free and open to all members of the public. Suitable footwear and rain gear are recommended. It starts on Saturday at midday.
