New Stake a big bonus for Ennis-Clarecastle coursing fixture

THE Ennis-Clarecastle coursing fixture takes place next weekend and club members and supporters are keeping their fingers crossed that the inclement weather conditions of late will not be a setback to plans to maintain very high standards associated with the Manus venue.
The Ennis-Clarecastle club has been rejuvenated since moving to Manus in recent years. The magnificent stretch placed at the disposal of the club by the McInerney family has witnessed some of the best coursing ever associated with the club and hopes are high that the faithful will be in for another treat on Saturday and Sunday.
Apart from the usual all-age cups, trial stakes and members stakes, the card this year also features a trial stake for eight nominated trial stake winners the first time. It is named the Fourth of July puppy stake after  past Derby winner, Fourth of July, who often galloped over the Manus fields. He was owned by Paddy Considine from Abbey Street, Ennis, an uncle of Pat McInerney snr.
There is a nice line up for the HJ Murphy Memorial all-age dog stake (16). Bookmaker Denny Gould will have Soundmanpaddy on the boards as the 3/1 pre-coursing favourite. Trained by Gerry Griffin, Abbeyfeale, he put in two rounds in Liscannor before being withdrawn injured. He will be fancied to come out of the top half which also includes last year’s winner, Ann Quinlan’s Quarrymount Man.
The ones to watch for in the bottom half will be Banna Joker who reached the semi-final in Abbeydorney and  Ballywiliam, owned by Frank Kelly and Mikie McInermey, Sixmilebridge ,who  put in a few rounds in Doon and reached the semi-final in Limerick City.
Camogue Sky, the recent winner in Abbeydorney, will be the 5/2 favourite to win the Coote family all-age bitch stake (16). It could well a final between her and Gerry Griffin owned and trained Sporting Fatima who won the trial stake at this venue last year and more recently reached the final of the all-age stake in Limerick City.
Bookmaker Denny Gould will have a vested interest in the outcome of the first running of the Fourth of July Puppy stake as he is among the owners of the Oranmore winner, Ibrickane Pat, who will be the pre-coursing favourite at even money.
Other prices will be 2/1 Gally’s Bridge, 3/1 Brazen Serpent, 4/1 Ashtown Rusty, Oileán Fantasy, Vacume Smasher, 5/1 Finuge Molly, 6/1 Upsetter.
