AUCTIONEERS GVM, entrusted with the sale of the vacant livestock mart in Sixmilebridge, say a new party has entered the bidding for the property in competition to a local farmer-led consortium.
Sixmilebridge and District Farmers Group, through a shares purchase initiative, had tabled a bid of €300,000, an offer so far unacceptable to Golden Vale Mart. They now find that a new party has entered the bidding.
Auctioneer Tom Crosse reiterated that the farmers’ offer of €300,000 is not satisfactory and the board of GVM believe the property, located on a 4.5 acres site at Ballysheen, is worth more.
He said a new expression of interest has been received and they are in discussions with that new party. However, he wouldn’t divulge whether the new bid is higher or lower than the €300,000 put on the table by the farmer-led consortium.
Paul O’Neill of the Sixmilebridge and District Farmers Group said they are in limbo as regards the purchase of the property in that they have heard nothing other that the communication saying their bid wasn’t acceptable.
“We feel GVM are stringing us along. We have heard nothing in the past few weeks and I suppose the odds are against us at the moment. But we have to keep a positive outlook and hope that things might yet turn in our favour,” he remarked.
